On 30 July 2024, Specialised Security Services sent out a nationwide project on Mr Schoeman, detailing the following events:
OUR CASE:
Our client contacted us and requested an investigation into Mr Ryno Schoeman.
He allegedly defrauded her of R329,000.00 after he approached and befriended her on Facebook in 2022.
Our client’s daughter explained that she had concerns about Mr Schoeman's friendship with her mother after she noticed that Mr Schoeman’s actions matched the modus operandi of sweetheart scammers in general.
She expressed her concerns to her mother at the time, but her mother disregarded the warnings because she did not believe that Mr Schoeman would defraud her in any way as he claimed to be a man of principle with Christian values.
Not long after the friendship started, Mr Schoeman started hinting that he was in love with our client and wanted to visit her.
He made plans for them to travel, but he did not have a vehicle, and he requested her financial assistance to purchase a vehicle big enough for them to travel together.
Mr Schoeman sent photos of the vehicle he planned to purchase, emphasising how much they could do as a couple if they had the vehicle.
He pointed out that the vehicle he chose would be big enough to accommodate the medical equipment our client always needed by her side.
Hence, she believed he thought of every small detail and wanted to use the vehicle for the purpose he indicated to her.
Our client finally agreed to advance the amount of R329,000.00 to Mr Schoeman for the purchase of the vehicle.
Soon after the money was transferred into Mr Schoeman’s bank account, he blocked our client’s communications, and when she attempted to track him down through other mutual friends on his Facebook profile, she received a message from another female Facebook user who asked her why she was contacting her fiancé.
At that point our client realised that she had been defrauded and that Mr Schoeman was engaged to another woman, which he had never told her.
It was later discovered that Mr Schoeman purchased a luxury vehicle that did not match the specifications, colour, make, model or size of the vehicle that he told our client he was going to purchase with the money she had given him.
The vehicle he purchased did not have the capacity or basic ability to accommodate our client’s medical equipment.
Hence, Mr Schoeman defrauded our client by applying the money she gave him for a purpose different from what he indicated it was for.
Specialised Security Services started an investigation into Mr Schoeman and found that he had multiple social media accounts, many more than the average person would have.
It was also found that Mr Schoeman is in a relationship, and he was in a relationship during the time that he claimed to be in love with our client.
To resolve the matter amicably, Specialised Security Services contacted Mr Schoeman directly and asked him for his side of the story and to return the money he took from our client.
Mr Schoeman made it clear that he had no intention of returning the money or the vehicle to our client and stated that it was a gift from our client to him, although he previously had offered to pay the money back.
After the communication with Mr Schoeman, he proceeded to block our efforts to contact him again.
Our client provided a sworn statement of events, and we are currently in the process of registering a criminal case against Mr Schoeman.
In response to the first project, Specialised Security Services has been inundated with calls from members of the public who have had similar experiences with Mr Schoeman.
After reading the first project, a man contacted Specialised Security Services and requested assistance as he believed that his mother was in the process of possibly being scammed by Mr Schoeman.
He recognised the modus operandi detailed in the first project and warned his mother of the potential dangers of being involved with Mr Schoeman.
Our client was subsequently contacted by attorneys claiming they represented Mr Schoeman.
A settlement was proposed where Mr Schoeman agreed to return the vehicle he purchased with our client’s money.
After careful consideration, our client agreed to postpone opening a criminal case and to consider the settlement IF Mr Schoeman meets certain requirements.
A response letter was sent to the attorneys who initiated contact with our client, and although they confirmed receipt of the correspondence, they are yet to respond.
However, Specialised Security Services became aware of the fact that the email correspondence between the law firm representing Mr Schoeman and our client was initiated by a family member of Mr Schoeman, who is employed by the law firm.
The fact that the agreement is not being finalised even though it was initiated by Mr Schoeman leaves the impression that Mr Schoeman’s family members used the correspondence to buy time and to delay our client from filing criminal charges against Mr Schoeman.
Mr Schoeman has also made direct contact with our client, and he made promises to rectify the situation, even though he has not made any effort to do so through the legal process.
It is clear from the communication that Specialised Security Services received between Mr Schoeman, our client and another female that Mr Schoeman is making the same promise to multiple people at the same time.
He is manipulating our client to withdraw her complaints against him, and at the same time, he is using the idea that the complaints will be withdrawn against him to convince the other female that he can be trusted.
Our client is now proceeding with criminal charges against Mr Schoeman.
THE INVESTIGATION INTO MR SCHOEMAN IS ONGOING.
