In the early hours of 7 December 2025 at 01:27, fifteen heavily armed suspects launched

a highly coordinated and exceptionally violent attack on the Danville Spar.

The suspects forced open the main entrance — a steel shutter door — using crowbars,

gaining access to the store and targeting the Capitec ATM located inside.

ROBBERY DETAILS:

  • Seven suspects forcibly removed the ATM from its base and loaded it onto a white Toyota Hilux GD6, using trolleys to manoeuvre the machine.

  • The remaining gunmen established an armed perimeter, firing continuously to prevent any person from approaching the scene.

  • The group used AK-47 rifles, R5 rifles, and 9mm pistols to intimidate the public and neutralise potential response.

  • While the primary team extracted the ATM, additional suspects looted the store and loaded the stolen goods onto a white Isuzu bakkie.

  • Information confirms that the Capitec ATM had been refilled the previous day, making it a highly lucrative target.

  • All four access routes to the Spar were strategically occupied by heavily armed suspects.

  • Any attempt to intervene would have resulted in certain death.

  • More than 100 spent cartridges were recovered on the scene.

  • A CMS Security officer who responded to the incident was ambushed upon entering the armed perimeter and was fatally shot multiple times with AK-47 rifles inside his vehicle.

  • This highly coordinated attack involved a total of 15 well-trained armed robbers who secured the entire area and awaited any threat with lethal intent.

  • The suspects positioned themselves at all critical points surrounding the Spar to ensure that no one could enter or disrupt their operation.

CCTV footage indicates that the suspects remained on-site for approximately an hour and a half,

carrying out the robbery with precision and without interruption.

The perpetrators were highly trained, fully disguised with balaclavas and masks,

and wore gloves throughout the operation to avoid leaving forensic evidence.

This incident is believed to be the seventh similar attack targeting Capitec ATMs.

Vehicles identified in the operation include:

  • White Toyota Hilux GD6.

  • White Isuzu bakkie.

  • Nissan NP300.

  • White Toyota Quantum.

Specialised Security Services warns that these robberies are escalating in frequency, sophistication, and brutality —

posing an extreme threat to public safety, security personnel, and communities across South Africa.
