Specialised Security Services (SSS) is investigating allegations of fraud involving a person who represented himself

as being associated with Eco Nest Nutec and Log Homes and who allegedly used the name “Prince”

in dealing with a prospective client.

DETAILS OF THE FRAUD:

  • According to information received by SSS, the client intended to construct a 100 m² Nutec home and made contact with the individual, who provided a quotation/invoice in the amount of R250,000 for the proposed construction project.

  • The client subsequently paid the required deposit into an ABSA bank account in the name of S. Nkabinde, account number ending 8989.

  • Following payment, building materials were reportedly delivered to the client.

  • However, SSS has established that the materials were transported by two different vehicles, neither of which, according to the information currently available, belonged to the individual known as “Prince” or to S. Nkabinde.

  • After the deliveries had taken place, the contractor allegedly became uncontactable.

  • Attempts by the client to communicate with him by telephone and electronic messages were reportedly unsuccessful.

MULTIPLE IDENTITIES AND ADDRESSES:

  • A further concern raised during the investigation is that the individual allegedly identifies himself as being from Pretoria, yet apparently uses different addresses when dealing with others.

  • The use of varying personal or business details, particularly when payments are made into a bank account held in another person's name, is a significant warning sign that prospective clients should investigate carefully before making substantial payments.

  • SSS emphasises that these circumstances do not, on their own, establish criminal liability.

  • They form part of the information currently being investigated and must ultimately be assessed by the appropriate law-enforcement and prosecutorial authorities.

CRIMINAL CASE OPENED:

  • A criminal case relating to the allegations has been opened with the South African Police Service (SAPS) under: Bainsvlei CAS 218/10/2025 – Fraud

  • The matter remains subject to investigation.

  • SSS urges potential victims not to assume that they are the only person who may have been affected.

  • Construction-related fraud can involve multiple victims, particularly where individuals are approached through informal advertising, social media, referrals or seemingly legitimate business identities.

PUBLIC WARNING:

  • Members of the public should exercise extreme caution before paying large deposits to building contractors or construction companies.

  • Before making payment, prospective clients should:

    • Verify that the business is legitimately registered and operating;

    • Confirm the identity of the person representing the business;

    • Verify the physical business address independently;

    • Establish who owns the bank account into which payment is requested;

    • Obtain a detailed written quotation or contract;

    • Verify references from previous clients;

    • Confirm ownership or legitimate use of the business name being presented;

    • Be cautious where different names, addresses or banking details are provided;

    • Avoid making substantial payments without appropriate contractual protection; and

    • Keep copies of all invoices, quotations, contracts, WhatsApp messages, emails, proof of payment and other communications.

  • A professional-looking quotation, company name or social-media presence does not by itself prove that a contractor is legitimate.

SSS APPEAL FOR INFORMATION:

SSS is appealing to any other person who believes this individual may have defrauded them

or by persons operating under the name Eco Nest Nutec and Log Homes, as well as anyone

who may have relevant information concerning the individual known as “Prince”, to come forward.

Information relating to previous construction projects, payments, bank accounts, addresses, vehicles used for deliveries,

other victims or associated individuals may be important to establishing the full extent of the allegations.

SSS encourages potential victims to retain all documentary and electronic evidence

and to report suspected criminal conduct to the SAPS.

Anyone with relevant information is requested to contact the SSS investigative team/Mr. Mike Bolhuis

so that the information can be assessed and, where appropriate, brought to the attention of the investigating authorities.

Do not pay substantial construction deposits simply because someone appears legitimate.

Verify first, investigate the contractor, verify the banking details and ensure that

the contractual arrangements are properly documented.

In construction fraud, the warning signs are often visible before the money is paid.

The time spent verifying a contractor may prevent the loss of hundreds of thousands of rand.
