On 18 November 2024, Mr. Jerry Boshoga was allegedly kidnapped in Centurion, Pretoria, after attending what was believed to be a business meeting. At the time of the incident, Mr. Boshoga was accompanied by his brother.

However, his brother remained behind while Mr. Boshoga entered a vehicle occupied by the alleged kidnappers.

The circumstances surrounding the incident immediately raised serious questions, and from the outset,

the matter appeared far more complex than an ordinary kidnapping case.

INVOLVEMENT OF SPECIALISED SECURITY SERVICES (SSS):

  • Approximately one week after the incident, the family of Mr. Jerry Boshoga approached Specialised Security Services (SSS) to assist with the investigation.

  • At that stage, suspicions had already emerged regarding the alleged involvement of Mr. Vusimusi “Cat” Matlala.

  • Concerns regarding possible information leaks within members of the South African Police Service (SAPS) investigative teams also surfaced during the early stages of the investigation, creating additional complications and raising concerns about possible corruption and interference.

INITIAL SCENARIOS CONSIDERED:

  • From the beginning, investigators considered several possible scenarios surrounding the alleged kidnapping, including:

    • A possible self-kidnapping linked to the recovery of outstanding drug-related debt;

    • The direct or indirect involvement of Mr. Vusimusi “Cat” Matlala;

    • A business transaction or criminal agreement that had gone wrong.

RANSOM DEMAND:

  • The original ransom demand was set at R60 million before later being reduced to R10 million.

  • Such an unusually high ransom amount further intensified suspicions that the matter involved organised criminal activity rather than a conventional kidnapping.

ALLEGED CRIMINAL BACKGROUND OF MR. BOSHOGA:

  • During the investigation, evidence emerged indicating that Mr. Jerry Boshoga was involved in various criminal activities, including the manufacturing and dealing of drugs.

  • Information obtained during the investigation suggested that Mr. Boshoga was not merely an ordinary businessman or entrepreneur but operated within organised criminal networks.

  • All relevant information uncovered by SSS investigators was shared with SAPS for further investigation and verification.

RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN MR. BOSHOGA AND MR. MATLALA:

  • Investigators further established that Mr. Jerry Boshoga and Mr. Vusimusi “Cat” Matlala had maintained a longstanding personal and business relationship.

  • The two were not only business associates but also close acquaintances.

  • This relationship significantly increased suspicions regarding possible involvement by individuals within Mr. Boshoga’s immediate circle.

DIGITAL AND FORENSIC FINDINGS:

The investigation revealed several highly suspicious digital and forensic findings:

  • On the morning of 18 November 2024, Mr. Boshoga's cell phone suddenly stopped recording movement data;

  • The device simultaneously ceased recording location information;

  • Location-sharing functions were disabled, and location history was deleted on the day of the alleged kidnapping;

  • Although the kidnapping was reported to have occurred at approximately 18:49, activity on the device continued until 19:42;

  • Data further indicated that the device remained active until 20 November 2024 while operating in flight mode — nearly two days after the alleged kidnapping;

  • Mr. Boshoga's cell phone was traced to Etwatwa, Springs, on the night of the incident;

  • Deleted calls from the day of the incident were successfully recovered;

  • Deleted messages were also recovered during forensic analysis;

  • Evidence suggested that Mr. Boshoga owed approximately R20 million to drug dealers;

  • Information further indicated that Mr. Boshoga made payments to certain police officers on various occasions;

  • Evidence indicated that Mr. Boshoga was linked to several high-ranking police officials;

  • Some of these police officials also maintained links with Mr. Vusimusi “Cat” Matlala;

  • Information obtained during the investigation suggested that certain senior police officials appeared on the payrolls of Mr. Boshoga and Mr. Matlala.

INVESTIGATION OF OBSTRUCTIONS AND CORRUPTION CONCERNS:

  • The investigation itself became increasingly problematic due to repeated transfers of the docket between different SAPS investigative teams.

  • Each time the matter was reassigned, crucial information gathered by SSS investigators disappeared, forcing investigators to repeatedly restart portions of the investigation.

  • Similar concerns also arose regarding information previously gathered by SAPS investigators. These repeated disruptions not only delayed progress significantly but further strengthened concerns regarding possible SAPS involvement, interference, or internal corruption.

CURRENT STATUS:

  • To date, Mr. Jerry Boshoga has still not been found, and the mystery surrounding the alleged kidnapping continues.

CRITICAL UNANSWERED QUESTIONS:

  • Was Mr. Boshoga killed after the ransom was not paid?

  • What transpired after the raid conducted at the residence of Mr. Vusimusi “Cat” Matlala?

  • Where is Mr. Jerry Boshoga currently?

  • Is he still alive?

  • Is he deliberately in hiding?

The matter remains one of the more unusual and controversial alleged kidnapping investigations in recent South African history, involving allegations of organised crime, drug trafficking, corruption, and possible police infiltration.

The SAPS investigation remains ongoing, and it is believed that further arrests and significant developments may follow as investigators continue to pursue multiple leads surrounding the disappearance of Mr. Jerry Boshoga.
