BACKGROUND:
Mr. Johannes Theodorus Ferreira (hereafter referred to as Jaap), a highly trained former member of the South African military's elite 1 Parachute Battalion and Parabat community, disappeared from his rented flatlet in 21 Paddon Road, Bray, North West, under highly irregular and complex circumstances.
While Jaap historically exhibited a pattern of periodically going "off-the-grid" due to recurring financial strain or seasonal farm-sitting engagements, his prolonged absence after mid-2021 has invoked intense concern among his family, friends and military comrades (the Parabats).
Specialised Security Services, led by Mr. Mike Bolhuis, initiated a multi-layered physical, cyber track-&-trace, and financial investigation to trace Jaap's whereabouts, uncovering a trail of protective digital cover-ups, personal evasion, and systemic financial anomalies.
This revised dossier incorporates extensive credit bureau audits, institutional database records, pharmacy system logs, and crucial direct email exchanges retrieved up to late 2022.
The compiled evidence establishes that Jaap remained alive post-disappearance but actively engineered a total evasion of his social, familial, and professional circles.
In late 2022, his sister, Ms. Anna Botha, granted formal authorisation for a full-scale missing persons investigation, despite voicing a profound sense of resignation due to Jaap's defensive psychology, pride, and explicit instructions to be left alone.
To bypass Jaap's self-imposed digital blackout, investigators executed audits across consumer profile databases (CPB), credit bureaus, property registries, banking databases, and commercial pharmacy networks.
The mapping of these historical telephone lines and corporate links establishes that while Jaap was single and lived a highly secluded life, he had deep ties to the Hatfield area of Pretoria, with secondary residential footprints extending into the remote North-West border town of Bray.
This geography suggests potential regions of voluntary relocation.
INVESTIGATION INTO HIS WHEREABOUTS:
Jaap’s rented flatlet was searched on 26 July 2021.
At the time of the search, his clothing, bedding and food had been removed or packed.
His vehicles remained on the property.
His bakkie was secured with a gear lock and covered with corrugated iron.
His motorcycle was stored under a canvas cover in a locked barn.
The condition of the property and the manner in which his belongings and vehicles were left behind were consistent with an organised departure rather than a sudden departure under obvious duress.
This, however, does not establish where Jaap went or whether he remained safe after leaving the property.
SSS subsequently conducted enquiries using available records and databases, including information relating to historical telephone numbers, financial and consumer records, residential information and other available institutional records.
The enquiries established historical links between Jaap and the Hatfield area in Pretoria, as well as information indicating possible connections to the town of Bray.
BEHAVIOURAL PROFILE AND MENTAL HEALTH RISK FACTORS:
A detailed psychological reconstruction of Jaap reveals a complex, proud, aggressive and deeply scarred personality.
Jaap's actions are heavily influenced by severe, untreated military Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) stemming from his service in 1 Parachute Battalion.
This trauma, combined with a family history of early-onset Alzheimer's disease, significantly affected his behaviour, rendering him highly reclusive, defensive and aggressive.
His lifestyle had devolved into a squalid, hermit-like existence where he actively severed ties with family, friends and especially military comrades.
Despite his deteriorating living conditions and psychological state, we assume Jaap maintained peak physical conditioning, which was always a priority to him.
He followed an intense, highly disciplined routine, rising at first light to jog purposefully around the perimeter of the remote farm.
He also demonstrated a cyclical pattern of vanishing when facing financial crisis.
In 2018, he went entirely off the grid and lived in total darkness after Eskom cut his power.
In 2019, a similar six-week disappearance was masked by his landlord, Mr. Dawid van Eck, as a "month-long farm-sitting job in the Kalahari" — a narrative that was proven false, though Jaap later sent a defensive voice note at 4:00 AM before blocking his contacts.
Email correspondence from late 2022, analysed by his sister, Ms. Anna Botha, sheds profound light on Jaap's current state of mind.
She describes him as possessing a highly complex personality, characterising him as "very bitter, desperate, despondent and aggressive."
She believes he is profoundly ashamed of how his life has deteriorated, yet remains too stubborn and intensely proud to accept any form of assistance from his family, friends and his military comrades.
This shame-and-pride dynamic serves as the primary psychological engine driving his total self-isolation, hostility and aggression toward those attempting to locate him.
POSSIBLE EXPLANATIONS FOR HIS DISAPPEARANCE:
Based on the information available, the investigation is considering several possibilities.
1. VOLUNTARY DEPARTURE AND CONTINUED AVOIDANCE OF CONTACT (HIGHEST PROBABILITY):
This hypothesis is heavily validated by physical scene findings and direct electronic communications.
When investigators searched Jaap's flatlet on 26 July 2021, all clothing, bedding, and food were completely packed and removed.
However, his high-value assets were meticulously secured: his bakkie was double-locked with a gear lock and packed under heavy corrugated iron, and his motorcycle was hidden under a canvas tarp in a locked barn.
This indicates a pre-meditated, orderly departure rather than a sudden abduction or farm attack.
This theory is fully cemented by the May 2022 email exchanges.
Jaap directly instructed his sister to sell his inheritance and pay it into his ABSA account, proving he is alive and monitoring his financial interests.
Crucially, his hostile and aggressive response to her regarding the farm ("Die plaas is tussen my en die eienaar. Jy het niks daar verloor nie") reveals a highly defensive stance.
He appears to have established a private, confidential arrangement with landlord Mr. Dawid van Eck, to protect his activities and assets on the farm, instructing his family to stay away.
This accounts for Mr. Van Eck's evasive and contradictory statements to investigators, which likely served to protect Jaap's privacy.
Driven by a complex combination of pride, aggression, bitter disappointment over his life's outcome, and severe PTSD, Jaap is actively choosing to live as a ghost, deactivating his email in late 2022 after being confronted by Mr. Mike Bolhuis.
In May 2022, Mr. Mike Bolhuis sent a direct inquiry to jaapskaap53@gmail.com.
Mr. Bolhuis received an aggressive and hostile response telling him to "keep his nose out of his business" and to leave him alone.
2. MEDICAL OR OTHER PERSONAL DIFFICULTY:
This hypothesis accounts for Jaap's documented psychological vulnerability.
Suffering from severe, untreated military PTSD and showing potential symptoms of early-onset Alzheimer's disease (which runs in his family), Jaap's behaviour before disappearing was increasingly erratic.
His hoarding of water containers, obsession with leaving taps open, and living in squalor indicate cognitive decline.
It is highly plausible that Jaap experienced a severe dissociative fugue state or memory collapse, wandering away from his running route or flatlet.
However, the subsequent cohesive, albeit hostile, email responses in May 2022 regarding his inheritance and safe contents (the contents of the safe are known to SSS) strongly argue against a total loss of cognitive function, though he remains in a highly volatile psychological state.
3. CRIMINAL ACTIVITY OR FOUL PLAY:
The isolated location of the farm and Jaap's highly predictable running routines made him an extremely vulnerable target.
The surrounding Garsfontein area had experienced multiple farm attacks.
While the locked vehicles and packed clothes argue against a sudden home invasion, several anomalies persist: the sudden, unexplained death of Jaap's dog, the landlord's evasive and contradictory statements, and the highly suspicious Zulu-language WhatsApp message received by Ms. Anna Botha on her private SIM card on 21 July 2021.
If Jaap fell victim to foul play on his running route, the subsequent emails could represent a highly coordinated financial exploitation scheme.
However, Ms. Anna Botha's absolute certainty regarding the email's writing style and the unique knowledge of the safe contents makes a digital impersonation or cover-up highly unlikely.
CURRENT STATUS OF THE INVESTIGATION:
The last confirmed known contact with Jaap was on 15 July 2021.
Available email communications indicate that he is presumed alive during 2022 and that he communicated regarding his financial and personal affairs.
His current whereabouts and condition have not been confirmed.
The investigation remains focused on establishing:
Jaap's current whereabouts;
Whether he is safe;
Whether he is alive.

Anyone who has information concerning the whereabouts of Mr. Johannes Theodorus “Jaap” Ferreira is requested
