Our client, Mrs. Myburgh, required plumbing services and responded to a Facebook advert by Swift Plumbing.
The advert listed contact numbers +27 84 777 7706 and + 27 79 272 5350.
She contacted Mr. Trevor Swart, a representative of Swift Plumbing.
After inspecting the issue, Mr. Swart advised that the geyser needed replacement.
He issued a proforma invoice no.1131 for R58,650.00, inclusive of 15% VAT.
The invoice included:
Supply and installation of a heat pump.
Supply and installation of a 150L geyser.
Re-looping and servicing of the existing geyser.
Mrs. Myburgh paid the full invoiced amount.
The invoice was signed by Mr. Donovan Swart, Mr. Trevor’s known partner, but under the name "William."
Swift Plumbing stated that they replaced the geyser and heat pump as per the quotation.
Mrs. Myburgh’s insurance company sent a contractor to inspect the installation.
The inspector reported that the work invoiced had not been completed.
The serial number confirmed that the geyser installed was the same unit fitted a few years ago.
A formal report detailing these findings was sent to Mrs. Myburgh.
The work was eventually completed by Santam at a total cost of R12,127.50—substantially lower than Swift Plumbing’s quoted amount.
Mrs. Myburgh contacted Mr. Trevor again.
His response was reportedly rude and dismissive.
When Mr. Morney Vos from Specialised Security Services contacted Mr. Swart for clarity, Mr. Swart again reacted aggressively.
Mr. Vos questioned the inclusion of VAT on the invoice, as Swift Plumbing is not a registered company and does not have a VAT number.
Mr. Swart admitted that they were not qualified plumbers and could not issue a Certificate of Compliance.
Mr. Swart accused Specialised Security Services of bias and made derogatory comments regarding race.
Mr. Vos indicated that a public warning would be issued via a project about Swift Plumbing.
In response, Mr. Swart mockingly stated, “MAKE US FAMOUS PLEASE.”
He also made threatening remarks, claiming to know Mr. Vos’s residence and warning him to “be careful.”
