PUBLIC WARNING: THE "BENCHMARK WOODWORKING" FRAUDULENT INVESTMENT SCAM

YOU MAY SHARE THIS PUBLIC DOCUMENT

In the digital age, online scams have become more sophisticated, exploiting even the most cautious individuals. One of the latest fraudulent schemes to surface in South Africa is the

misuse of the reputable UK-based company "Benchmark Woodworking", in an investment scam that has

impacted thousands of South Africans.

This case serves as a serious reminder to exercise extreme caution when

engaging with any online investment opportunities.

THE NATURE OF THE SCAM:

  • Scammers have fraudulently used Benchmark Woodworking's name and reputation to operate a fake investment platform targeting South Africans.

  • Promising high returns with minimal risk, they entice victims with small, quick payouts to build trust.

  • Initially, investors are encouraged to make modest investments, which are promptly paid out, fostering an illusion of legitimacy.

  • However, as victims become comfortable and invest more significant sums, they encounter issues with withdrawals and are coerced into paying additional fees to access their funds.

  • This method of operation is similar to a classic "Ponzi scheme," in which early investors are paid using funds from newer victims.

  • Once substantial investments are made, the fraudsters either block further withdrawals or demand additional fees, leading to severe financial losses for the victims.

IMPACT ON SOUTH AFRICAN INVESTORS:

  • Thousands of individuals across South Africa have fallen prey to this scam, suffering both financially and emotionally.

  • Many victims were drawn in by the promise of rapid financial gain in a tough economic environment.

  • Unfortunately, using a legitimate company's name further complicated their ability to detect fraud, leading to significant losses.

  • In some cases, victims have lost their savings and are now facing severe financial instability.

INVESTIGATION AND ACCOUNTABILITY:

  • SSS has identified several individuals across different provinces in South Africa who are connected to this scam.

  • These perpetrators operated in a coordinated manner, each playing a specific role in deceiving the victims.

  • We are currently conducting an extensive investigation to ensure they are held accountable and to prevent further harm.

The fraudulent Benchmark Woodworking investment scheme underscores how easily scammers can exploit trust for financial gain.

It is a stark warning to South Africans to remain vigilant and thoroughly investigate any investment opportunities.

Scammers often use reputable names to mask their true intentions, making it vital to verify the authenticity of every offer.
