PROJECT: GENERAL PRECAUTIONARY MEASURES ON BLACK FRIDAY, 29 NOVEMBER 2024

YOU MAY SHARE THIS PUBLIC DOCUMENT

  • Avoid getting swept up by the hype of the day, flashy advertisements, and too-good-to-be-true discounts.

  • Stick to a list of items you actually need and have budgeted for.

  • Many items are marked down again or have similar discounts later in the year.

  • Always do your homework beforehand and price-check online to confirm that you are indeed getting the best deal.

  • Always read the fine print and double-check return policies, as some stores have stricter policies on Black Friday.

  • Ensure you know what is covered, especially for electronics or big-ticket items.

  • Do not take a personal loan to cover expenses on Black Friday.

  • Set a spending limit and avoid using credit to fund impulse buys.

  • Shopping without a budget can lead to debt or financial stress.

  • Many retailers offer the same or better deals online.

  • Shopping online can save time, help avoid crowds, and sometimes offer exclusive discounts or free shipping.

  • Read our previous project thoroughly regarding safe online shopping:

  • Avoid physical altercations or unsafe crowd situations.

  • Always keep your belongings secure.

  • Carry a small crossbody bag or a zippered purse to keep your items close.

  • Avoid carrying large amounts of cash; use credit or debit cards instead.

  • Be cautious about taking out credit cards or IDs in public areas; this reduces the chance of theft and keeps your personal information secure.

  • Avoid wearing expensive jewellery, branded accessories, or anything that could make you a target while shopping.

  • Park in a well-lit area, preferably close to entrances, and avoid isolated spots.

  • Remember where you parked and lock your car.

  • Avoid leaving valuables in plain sight; store them in the trunk or out of view.

  • Stay aware of your surroundings, especially in crowded areas.

  • Watch for anyone who seems to be following you and avoid distractions like looking down at your phone too much.

  • If you are shopping with others, stay together.

  • For families, establish a meeting spot in case someone gets separated, and make sure kids know where to go if they get lost.

  • If you are returning to your car to drop off purchases before continuing to shop, place bags in the trunk or cover them.

  • Avoid making trips in and out of the mall with noticeable shopping bags multiple times.

  • When returning to your car, have your keys out and ready so you can get in quickly and avoid lingering in the parking lot.

  • When getting into your car, close the door immediately and lock all four doors.

  • Ensure no one is following you home, and if your security gate is not automatic, have someone open and close it for you upon arrival.

  • Ensure the security gate is fully closed and you feel safe before unlocking your car and getting out.

Black Friday crowds can be overwhelming.

Remain calm and patient and avoid pushing.

If you feel unsafe in a crowd,

step aside and wait for it to clear.

If something feels off, do not ignore it.

Your intuition can often alert you to potential dangers,

so be willing to leave if you feel uncomfortable or unsafe.
