THE GROWING RISK OF FRAUDULENT MOTOR-PARTS TRANSACTIONS IN SOUTH AFRICA:
South Africans are increasingly becoming victims of fraudulent online and informal business transactions involving vehicle parts, racing components, quadbike spares, and specialised mechanical equipment. In many cases, complainants pay large sums of money upfront for parts that are either never delivered, delivered in damaged condition, or completely different from what was ordered.
Victims are often left financially disadvantaged, while perpetrators avoid accountability through excuses, delays, and disappearances.
Specialised Security Services (SSS) continues to receive complaints from members of the public regarding individuals allegedly engaging in deceptive business practices and fraudulent conduct.
One such individual is Mr. Gustav Kniep, associated with a business known as “Boy Toys Racing”.

MODUS OPERANDI OF MR. GUSTAV KNIEP:
According to information and complaints received by SSS, Mr. Gustav Kniep allegedly follows a recurring pattern of conduct involving the acceptance of money for goods or services, failure to deliver as promised, avoidance of communication, and repeated excuses to delay refunds or replacement items.
Approximately two years ago, Mr. Kniep reportedly opened “Boy Toys Racing” on the property of Mr. Dewaldt Potgieter.
Despite allegedly being in arrears with rental payments for nearly two years, Mr. Potgieter reportedly experienced substantial difficulty in attempting to remove or evict Mr. Kniep from the premises.
It is alleged that outstanding rental amounts accumulated to nearly R300,000.00.
Further complaints indicate that clients allegedly paid Mr. Kniep for vehicle parts and components that were either not supplied or incorrectly supplied.
One complainant, Mr. Albert Meyburgh, allegedly paid Mr. Kniep R6,000.00 for motor vehicle parts that were ordered through him.
Mr. Meyburgh reportedly travelled from Bethal to collect the parts, only to discover that Mr. Kniep was not present to fulfil the transaction.
Another complainant, Mr. Carlos Dos Santos, contacted SSS after becoming aware of previous projects relating to complaints against Mr. Kniep.
According to the complainant, payment of R5,000.00 was made on 31/07/2023 for a quadbike crankshaft.
When the courier shipment eventually arrived, the item allegedly differed from what had originally been ordered and was reportedly damaged.
Mr. Dos Santos allegedly attempted repeatedly to either obtain the correct crankshaft or secure a refund.
According to the complainant, Mr. Kniep provided numerous excuses as to why the correct item could not be supplied and why repayment could allegedly not take place.
The complainant reportedly suffered further financial prejudice through courier costs between Welkom and Pretoria in addition to the original payment amount.
SAPS CASE AND CRIMINAL CONCERNS:
SSS was informed that the complainant initially struggled to open a criminal case with the South African Police Service, allegedly being advised that the matter was “civil” in nature.
After further attempts, a criminal case involving allegations of theft and fraud was eventually registered at Welkom SAPS under CAS 125/11/2023.
This situation highlights a serious concern frequently encountered by victims of commercial fraud in South Africa.
Many complainants are incorrectly advised that matters involving payment disputes are purely civil, despite circumstances potentially involving criminal intent, deception, misrepresentation, or fraudulent inducement.
Where an individual repeatedly accepts payment while allegedly failing to supply goods, avoiding clients, making false representations, or continually delaying refunds without justification, criminal investigations may become warranted.
PRIOR ENGAGEMENTS WITH SSS:
In previous SSS projects regarding Mr. Gustav Kniep, allegations relating to fraudulent and criminal conduct were already publicly addressed.
Following those projects, Mr. Kniep personally contacted Mr. Mike Bolhuis and reportedly appointed Specialised Security Services to assist in handling disputes and complaints involving dissatisfied clients and complainants.
Mr. Kniep allegedly undertook to cooperate fully in resolving outstanding matters and disputes.
Unfortunately, according to information available to SSS, the agreed cooperation allegedly did not materialise, and complainants reportedly continued experiencing unresolved financial prejudice and ongoing difficulties.
As a result, SSS considers it necessary to warn members of the public to exercise extreme caution before conducting business or making upfront payments in transactions involving Mr. Gustav Kniep or associated business operations.
WARNING SIGNS THE PUBLIC SHOULD NEVER IGNORE:
SSS urges the public to remain vigilant when conducting business involving vehicle parts, online sales, specialised components, or private suppliers.
Warning signs often include:
Demands for upfront EFT payments.
Constant excuses regarding delivery delays.
Failure to answer calls or messages after payment.
Supplying incorrect or damaged items.
Refusal or inability to provide refunds.
Sudden disappearance when clients attempt collection.
Multiple complainants reporting similar experiences.
Continuous promises without resolution.
Fraud involving vehicle parts and mechanical equipment can financially devastate victims,
especially where specialised items are expensive and difficult to source.
Many victims suffer additional transport, courier, accommodation,
and legal expenses while attempting to recover losses.
SSS strongly encourages members of the public to conduct proper due diligence before
making payments to private suppliers or informal businesses.
Verify business legitimacy, insist on written documentation, confirm physical addresses,
and carefully investigate prior complaints or online reports before transferring funds.
Any person who believes they may have been prejudiced in matters involving Mr. Gustav Kniep
is encouraged to contact the relevant investigating authorities and seek professional assistance.
Victims of fraud, theft, intimidation, scams, or organised criminal activity may also contact Specialised Security Services,
