Specialised Security Services is currently investigating approximately 1070 complaints received against
the Medical Digital Intelligence (MDI) Ponzi scheme.
Medical Digital Intelligence LLC is a real company, officially registered in Minnesota, USA, since 2017.
However, this company is dormant, has no online presence, no business operations in South Africa,
and is not linked to the scheme in any way. Scammers have engaged in corporate identity theft
using the company's name and address to create a fake image of legitimacy.
It appears they even hired an actor to pose as the CEO in promotional videos.
HOW THE MDI SCHEME WORKS:
The scam presents itself as a digital health-tech investment opportunity, offering "virtual doses" of well-known pharmaceutical drugs (such as Hemlibra, Tecentriq, and Actemra) in packages that promise daily financial returns.
These offers are entirely fictitious.
No such products or investment contracts exist.
All "returns" paid out were funded by money received from new victims, a classic Ponzi structure.
CURRENT STATUS:
Early entrants sometimes received payouts, but this was funded by newer investors.
As more money came in, participants were encouraged to recruit others and increase contributions.
Now, the "scheme is entering its collapse phase": users report blocked accounts, withdrawal failures, and demands for extra verification fees (e.g., R5 111) to unlock their accounts.
TYPICAL PONZI SCHEME CHARACTERISTICS:
The scheme makes use of a legitimate company name, giving the false impression of credibility, yet there are no formal links between the scam and the registered entity.
It operates illegally in South Africa, with no valid registration, no financial regulatory licences, and no lawful standing under national legislation.
Investors are lured in with guaranteed returns on so-called "virtual pharmaceutical packages," - there is no evidence of real infrastructure, physical product, or operational business behind the offering.
The scheme is now showing clear signs of collapse, including:
Frozen accounts.
Withdrawal restrictions.
Sudden "verification" fees.
Multiple victims have confirmed that their accounts were suddenly closed, funds disappeared, and they were pressured into making additional payments under false pretences to "unlock" their earnings.
As a result of the large number of complainants who approached Specialised Security Services,
the following protocol was established to ensure that every complaint is attended to:
A WhatsApp group have been established which the complainants must join to share their information with
the Specialised Security Services Cybercrimes Unit. Updates on the investigations
will also be shared on the WhatsApp group by the specialist investigators who are conducting the investigations.

INFORMATION REQUESTED FROM THE INVESTIGATORS MUST BE COMPLETED AND SENT TO THEM DIRECTLY AND NOT ON THE GROUP.
Investigations like these can take a long time to complete and can be costly.
Please be patient and give our Cybercrime Investigators space and time to do their work.

When contacting a specialist investigator, please ensure that you:
Write a detailed email/WhatsApp explaining exactly what happened and how much money you lost.
Complete the following questionnaire and send it to one of our investigators:
Name,
Contact number,
Amount lost,
The area that you are from,
Contact information of the Suspects,
Bank details of the Suspects.
Complete the following only if you have opened a case with the SAPS.
Name of the police station,
Case number,
Investigating officer's name,
Investigating officer's contact number.
