Specialised Security Services (SSS) confirms with deep regret that Mr. David William Hamilton, aged 59,
who was reported missing on 29 July 2026, has been found deceased.
Mr. Hamilton was last confirmed seen at approximately 09:00 on 29 July 2026 at his residence in Parkhurst, Gauteng.
He had indicated that he was going for a walk and subsequently failed to return home.
At the time, concern was heightened by the fact that Mr. Hamilton was medically vulnerable and required chronic medication.
The search for a missing person is never simply a matter of locating someone.
Every hour can be critical, particularly where a person is medically vulnerable, elderly, disoriented,
exposed to the elements or potentially at risk of becoming a victim of crime.
Families are left facing uncertainty while investigators and members of the community work to establish what happened.
In Mr. Hamilton's case, the outcome is unfortunately one that every missing-person investigation seeks to avoid.
SPECIAL WORD OF GRATITUDE TO THE SAPS:
SSS extends its special and sincere appreciation to the South African Police Service members from Parktown and Linden for their efforts and commitment during the investigation and search for Mr. Hamilton.
The cooperation between law-enforcement agencies, specialist investigators, security personnel, community members and the public remains an important component of missing-person investigations.
The efforts of those involved must be recognised, particularly in circumstances where the investigation ultimately ends with the recovery of a deceased person.
SSS also acknowledges the concern and assistance of members of the public who shared information and remained alert during the search.
RESPECT FOR THE FAMILY:
SSS urges the public to treat Mr. Hamilton's family with sensitivity and respect during this extremely difficult time.
The circumstances surrounding his death should not become the subject of speculation, rumours or unverified social-media claims.
The appropriate authorities must be allowed to conduct the necessary investigation and establish the facts.
SSS previously warned the public that false information surrounding missing persons can interfere with investigations, consume valuable resources and cause additional distress to families. Accurate information must always take precedence over speculation.
THE IMPORTANCE OF REPORTING A PERSON MISSING:
The disappearance of a person should never automatically be treated as a situation in which the family must "wait and see" whether the individual returns.
Where there is genuine concern for a person's safety or whereabouts, the matter should be reported to the SAPS without unnecessary delay.
Relevant information such as the person's last known location, clothing, medical condition, medication requirements, vehicle details, telephone information and recent movements can be critical to the investigation.
The public also has an important role to play. Anyone who has legitimate information that may assist investigators should provide it to the SAPS or the appropriate investigative team rather than spreading unverified information online.
The recovery of Mr. Hamilton brings an end to the uncertainty surrounding his whereabouts,
but it is a tragic conclusion for his family and those who hoped that he would be found alive.
SSS extends its sincere condolences to the family, friends and loved ones of Mr. David William Hamilton.
