CASE BACKGROUND:

Specialised Security Services (SSS) was mandated to investigate a large-scale robbery at the warehouse of EP Eden Perfumes, located in Meadowdale, Johannesburg. The incident occurred on the late evening of 6 August 2026 and continued into the early morning of 7 August 2026. A total of 30,000 bottles of perfume and lotion, along with 8 company laptops and a company vehicle, were stolen during the heist. The approximate retail value of the stolen stock was initially estimated at R3 million; however, updated assessments place the value of the high-end market perfumes alone at over R4,000,000.00, with lower-valued products left behind by the suspects.

At approximately 21h00 on 6 August 2026, at least 10 suspects breached the premises by climbing over the main perimeter wall. Entry was gained by removing the burglar bars from a bathroom window. The lock on the main gate was forced open, and the security system was disabled. Approximately five vehicles then entered the premises. The stolen merchandise was loaded into these vehicles, and the suspects fled the scene at approximately 02h15 on 7 August 2026.

The company vehicle was later recovered in Soweto, Johannesburg, during the morning hours of 7 August 2026. A criminal case was registered with the SAPS in Bedfordview under case number CAS 54/8/2026.

It seemed clear from the CCTV footage that the suspects knew their way around the premises and knew exactly where to find the most valuable perfumes. There were no security guards on the premises, only CCTV cameras.

NEW INFORMATION FOLLOWED UP:

SSS received a tip-off regarding the stock being sold in Soweto. Specialised Security Services investigator Mr. Morney Vos contacted the Soweto SAPS K9 unit to assist after obtaining a sworn statement regarding the information received.

The information led to an address in Soweto. After confronting a possible suspect, it was concluded that she was someone recruited by the syndicate to sell the perfumes.

After following up on more information, an African male was arrested at the Engen fuel station in North Riding with our client's stock in his possession. The name of the suspect cannot be revealed at the moment as further investigations are pending.

During the arrest, the suspect's mobile phone was confiscated for further investigation. Multiple text messages found on the mobile phone showed information about past business robberies and targeted addresses, as well as planned robberies for the next week. Photos retrieved from the mobile phone show numerous products that were taken from robberies, including cigarettes, lithium batteries, and various other products.

The arrest of the suspect was a major breakthrough in the case, with more arrests expected to follow soon. Specialised Security Services remains dedicated to dismantling the operations of the syndicate and bringing those involved to justice.

Specialised Security Services thanks the SAPS officials involved in the operation for their dedication and commitment to upholding law and order.

THE MODUS OPERANDI OF THE IDENTIFIED SYNDICATE:

Based on the investigation, the syndicate operates using the following method:

  1. INSIDER RECRUITMENT: Employees of a targeted company are recruited to provide information on the company regarding the status of security and stock on the property.

  2. RECONNAISSANCE: This employee is tasked with taking photos of the property as well as providing critical information to the syndicate, such as where the CCTV recording system is stored.

  3. ROBBERY PLANNING AND EXECUTION: The syndicate plans the robbery and executes it. The stock taken during the robbery is then distributed to different places across multiple provinces.

  4. DISTRIBUTION VIA RESELLERS: The syndicate employs sellers to sell the stock on their behalf, delivering the stock to resellers via BOLT and UBER services.

NEXT STEPS:

  • Further arrests are expected as the investigation continues.

  • The suspect's mobile phone is being analysed for additional evidence linking the syndicate to other crimes.

  • SSS is working closely with SAPS to dismantle the syndicate's operations across multiple provinces.

The public is urged to remain vigilant and report any sightings of the stolen EP Eden Perfumes

products being offered for sale under suspicious circumstances:
