PLEASE SHARE THIS PUBLIC DOCUMENT

  • Specialised Security Services (SSS) confirms that Mr. Hugo Ras remains in custody and, following the previous raid on his cell, has no means of electronic communication available to him. This has been independently verified.

  • The restrictions are intended to prevent Mr. Ras from using mobile phones or other electronic communication devices to contact victims, coordinate criminal activities or direct operations from within the correctional facility.

  • SSS has raised serious concerns about suspected criminal activities associated with Mr. Ras, including sextortion, extortion and scams targeting victims locally and internationally. The investigation has also highlighted concerns about the involvement of other individuals operating both inside and outside prison.

  • Although Mr. Ras remains in custody and his access to electronic communication has been disabled, SSS continues to monitor relevant information and work with the appropriate authorities to address the risk of further criminal activity. Preventing unauthorised communication is an important step in limiting the ability to coordinate offences from prison.

SSS INTERVENTION AND PUBLIC WARNING:

A Significant Step Towards Preventing Further Criminal Activity

  • Specialised Security Services (SSS), under the leadership of Mr. Mike Bolhuis, has achieved an important intervention in addressing the ongoing concerns surrounding Mr. Hugo Ras and suspected criminal activities directed from within prison.

  • Through direct collaboration with the Department of Correctional Services and Minister Pieter Groenewald, decisive action has been taken to restrict Mr. Ras’s access to electronic communication devices following the previous raid on his cell. His lack of access to these devices has been independently verified. This represents a significant step towards preventing him from using electronic communications to contact victims or coordinate further criminal activities from within the correctional facility.

  • In a further development, SSS has forwarded complete investigative files to the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and the Hawks (DPCI), bringing the international dimension of the scams under investigation to the attention of relevant law enforcement authorities. This action reflects the seriousness of the cross-border concerns and the importance of cooperation between investigative and law enforcement agencies.

  • These interventions demonstrate SSS’s continued commitment to protecting victims, pursuing evidence and working with the relevant authorities to limit opportunities for further criminal activity. While investigations and lawful processes continue, restricting unauthorised communication and escalating cross-border information to the appropriate authorities are important measures in addressing these concerns.

A MESSAGE TO VICTIMS:

  • SSS is aware that many victims and members of the public have been intimidated and remain afraid to speak out. You do not have to face this situation alone. SSS encourages anyone affected, or anyone with relevant information, to come forward for assistance. Support will be provided free of charge, and information will be handled with appropriate discretion.

  • SSS will continue to pursue every lawful avenue available to protect victims, support investigations and hold those responsible accountable.

  • Do not allow threats, intimidation or fear of exposure to prevent you from reporting criminal conduct. Preserve all relevant messages, screenshots, payment records and other evidence, and do not comply with further extortion demands without seeking assistance.

SSS, under the leadership of Mr. Mike Bolhuis and its Specialist Investigators, remains committed to assisting victims,

pursuing relevant evidence and cooperating with the appropriate authorities to prevent further offences

and hold those responsible accountable through lawful processes.
