Specialised Security Services first issued a public warning regarding Mr. Marius Jonck on 23 November 2023.
Since then, SSS has identified and assisted more than 15 additional victims whom this persistent and
calculated confidence trickster, has defrauded.
Recent complaints regarding Marius Jonck highlight a continued pattern of deceptive behaviour.
He has reportedly approached members of the public, falsely claiming that he can assist in expediting firearm licences and competency certificates.
These promises are made without any legal authority or accreditation, and often involve requests for upfront payments under false pretences.
Specialised Security Services strongly warns the public to remain cautious and to report any such incidents.
Always verify the credentials of individuals offering firearm-related services, and ensure all applications are handled through official and lawful SAPS channels.
Marius Jonck is a typical and shameless confidence trickster, con artist and fraudster. This is an individual who gains the trust of others, often through charm, manipulation and deception, in order to exploit them for personal gain.
These individuals typically target vulnerable people, such as the elderly, the grieving, or those in financial distress, by presenting false opportunities, promises, or identities. The goal is to defraud victims of their money, property, or sensitive information, often leaving them emotionally and financially devastated.

Marius Jonck presents a classic profile of a persistent and manipulative confidence trickster who systematically targets vulnerable elderly individuals, exploiting their trust, financial insecurity, and personal circumstances to defraud them of significant sums of money. His consistent behavioural patterns reveal a deliberate, deceptive strategy designed to appear helpful while concealing criminal intent.
KEY ELEMENTS OF HIS CONTINUED MODUS OPERANDI:
TARGETING THE ELDERLY AND ISOLATED:
Marius Jonck specifically preys on elderly individuals, often over the age of 70, who are financially vulnerable, socially isolated, or emotionally fragile.
He positions himself within close physical proximity, living in the same caravan park as his victims, to observe and assess potential targets without raising suspicion.
GAINING TRUST THROUGH FAMILIARITY AND ASSISTANCE:
He builds trust through regular, seemingly helpful interactions, such as offering to assist with:
Drawing SASSA grants.
Paying accounts.
Buying groceries.
This ongoing interaction creates the illusion of friendship and dependability, laying the groundwork for manipulation.
IDENTIFYING AND EXPLOITING SPECIFIC VULNERABILITIES:
In Case 1, as per our initial project, Jonck spotted the victim’s hidden life savings and used this knowledge to begin a series of personal loans under false pretences, fully aware that the victim distrusted formal banking institutions.
In Case 2, he overheard a conversation about a past fraud and immediately fabricated a false identity as an "investigator" to exploit the client’s emotional vulnerability and desperation for justice.
IMPERSONATION AND DECEPTION:
In Case 2, Mr. Jonck falsely claimed to be a criminal investigator, deceiving the victim into believing he had the authority and capability to assist in a legal case.
He fabricated urgent investigative needs (e.g., accessing records, freezing bank accounts) to justify high upfront payments.
FINANCIAL EXPLOITATION AND EMOTIONAL MANIPULATION:
He requested substantial payments under false pretences—R3,500.00 initially, followed by a much larger R30,000.00.
In both cases, he continually delayed repayment, offering false assurances, excuses, and promises to return the money, thus extending the scam while maintaining the illusion of good faith.
NO INTENTION TO REPAY:
Despite repeated requests from both victims, Jonck has not repaid a single cent.
His approach reflects clear criminal intent, with no contractual or legal basis for the funds he received.
A PATTERN OF CALCULATED FRAUD:
Marius Jonck operates as a strategic and manipulative con artist, deliberately embedding himself within communities of vulnerable individuals to observe, befriend, and ultimately exploit them. His tactics reflect a deliberate pattern:
Gain access → Build trust → Identify a vulnerability → Offer help → Request funds → Disappear or delay → Repeat.
The modus operandi of Marius Jonck is not isolated or accidental—it is a deliberate and repeated pattern of deception. In every known case, only two factors change:
The identity of the victim.
The amount of financial loss suffered.
His method remains the same: gain trust, present himself as helpful or connected, manipulate the victim’s vulnerabilities, extract money under false pretences, and then disappear or delay repayment indefinitely.
This consistency clearly points to premeditated, serial fraud, not a misunderstanding or personal dispute.

Specialised Security Services urges the public, especially the elderly and their families, to exercise extreme caution when dealing with individuals who:
Offer unsolicited assistance with money or legal matters.
Request cash or transfers without formal documentation.
Make unverifiable claims about their credentials.
