SUMMARY OF EVENTS:
Our client purchased a silver Mercedes-Benz (Registration BM 61 RR ZN) from McIndustrial Group Garage in Pinetown.
She paid a deposit of R80,000.00 and continued to pay monthly instalments of R17,500.00 for five (5) months.
During this period, she discovered that the vehicle was still financed through Westbank and therefore could not lawfully have been sold to her as an unencumbered asset.
When our client demanded a refund, the owner of the garage refused all responsibility, stating that the matter was “between her and the salesperson”, identified as Mr. Grant McNeil.
INVESTIGATION FINDINGS:
A formal complaint was lodged with the Pinetown Sheriff’s Office.
The Sheriff later confirmed that the garage had closed down, raising concerns of deliberate evasion.
Attempts to contact the suspect, Mr. Grant McNeil, have been unsuccessful.
His last known contact number: + 27 79 295 1015.
Westbank confirmed that they cannot assist, as the SSS client is not their direct client.
The suspect is currently missing, and his whereabouts are unknown.
SSS ANALYSIS:
This matter reflects classic indicators of motor-vehicle sale fraud, including:
Sale of a vehicle that is still under active finance.
Diversion of responsibility to an individual salesperson.
Closure of premises during an active dispute.
The suspect deliberately evades any contact.
