Corrupt individuals are found in all sectors of life.
Specialised Security Services has previously warned the public about the
criminal activities of confidence tricksters, fraudsters and thieves.
One such individual is Mr. George Schietekat from Bloemfontein, of whom we have received several complaints.
On 16 January 2024, our client agreed with Mr. George Schietekat regarding selling our client’s truck.
After negotiations, Mr. Schietekat proposed visiting a police station to create an affidavit concerning the down payment for the truck.
The agreed total for the truck was R140,000.00, payable at R10,000.00 per month.
Mr. Schietekat committed to obtaining insurance and maintaining the truck, and he pledged to pay off the truck as quickly as possible.
As of 1 October 2024, payments received from Mr. Schietekat total R22,000.00, leaving an outstanding balance of R118,000.00.
On 17 July 2024, we sent a letter to Mr. Schietekat informing him that ownership rights to the truck would be reserved until full payment was made and that he was not permitted to use the truck in the meantime.
Mr. Schietekat did not respond to this letter.
Upon investigation, the truck was found in the possession of a third party, who, on hidden camera, admitted that Mr. Schietekat had sold the truck to him.
The truck remains registered in our client's name.
The investigator also obtained an affidavit from the driver who delivered the vehicle to this third party.
Since then, Mr. Schietekat has avoided all contact with our client, the investigating officer, and our attorneys.
He has not answered calls, and WhatsApp communications have been blocked.
Selling a vehicle to which you have no ownership rights is a criminal offence.
Our client has decided that if the outstanding balance is not repaid, Mr. Schietekat must return the truck in the same condition as received.
While our client was willing to refund the R22,000, the legal costs incurred have led to the decision that no refund will be made, as Mr. Schietekat did not comply with the agreement or the affidavit.
Following further investigations, two additional clients came forward with complaints against Mr. Schietekat.
They reported that he had offered to deliver parcels which were sent by their family members.
The clients entrusted their parcels to Mr. Schietekat, but the parcels never reached their destination.
Both clients subsequently filed criminal cases against Mr. Schietekat for theft.
See the following case information: CAS 40/9/2024 has been registered in Lyttelton Pretoria.
Another client reported an incident in which she lent a trailer to Mr. Schietekat to dispose of garden waste.
Despite her repeated requests for the trailer to be returned, Mr. Schietekat has not responded and has not provided any information regarding the whereabouts of the trailer.
A criminal case was registered by the complainant with the following information: Case: CAS 1126/09/2024 in Park Road, Bloemfontein.
We noted from the initial complaint concerning the truck that Mr. Schietekat’s modus operandi appears to involve scamming individuals out of their personal possessions.
We urge the public to report any similar complaints to the SAPS and our Specialist Investigators.
After extensive investigations, another individual came forward with a complaint about George Schietekat.
She stated that he had mishandled her furniture while searching for a storage solution.
They had previously been friends but lost contact after a falling out.
Two years later, they unexpectedly encountered each other at a shopping centre while having coffee.
During their conversation, Mr. Schietekat mentioned that he was working with his attorney to establish a golf estate in the Glentana area.
He also indicated that he used the name George Papenfus to avoid attracting attention from women, claiming they targeted him owing to his apparent wealth.
In this conversation, our client expressed an urgent need for storage space for her furniture, as she had recently moved.
Mr. Schietekat offered to help her by loading and storing the furniture.
He borrowed two grinders from her father to cut the lock off the gate to her house, which had been secured by the landlord.
After loading the furniture, it remained in his possession, and our client never heard from him again.
When she inquired about her furniture, their exchanges became contentious, and he threatened to share photos of her on social media.
After a year had passed, she decided to file a report of theft against George Schietekat.
A criminal case was registered with information: Bloemfontein Park Road Cas: 475/09/2024.
Another case involves Mr Schietekat, who was operating a sophisticated romance (sweetheart) scam.
Our client, an elderly lady, developed a relationship with a Mr. Schietekat, whom she met online.
Over time, Mr. Schietekat manipulated our client into delveloping a sense of trust and intimacy, eventually proposing a lucrative business venture that promised significant returns, this proved to be a carefully orchestrated scam.
Mr. Schietekat manipulated our client into investing a substantial amount of money that added up to approximately R140,000.00 into this bogus business.
The so-called "returns" never materialised, and our client was left financially and emotionally devastated.
The investigation into Mr. Schietekat is ongoing.
