Specialised Security Services will continue to expose criminals and to educate, inform,
and warn unsuspecting members of the public.
Selling on social media has become an everyday trend but even sellers should be incredibly careful,
not trust anyone, and do thorough vetting before they enter into a financial transaction
and deliver goods or services before receiving payment.
OUR CLIENT'S CASE:
Our client advertised his 8-week-old Great Dane puppies for sale for R5,500.00 each.
On 25 May 2022, he was contacted by an interested party, known as Elli.
Elli arrived at the seller’s residential address and took the puppy, promising to make an electronic transfer the same day for the amount of R5,500.00.
After several calls, WhatsApp messages and false promises of payment, in the days that followed, it was clear that the seller would not receive his payment.
PERSONAL INFORMATION OF THE BUYER/ELLI:
Name and Surname: Elouise Mulder
Date of Birth: 1979-02-01
Contact number: +27 81 428 0755
PRECAUTIONARY MEASURES WHEN SELLING ON SOCIAL MEDIA:
Do not disclose personal information.
Disclose any information only what, and when, it is required.
Meet at a pre-arranged public place to prevent the person from knowing your physical address or entering your home.
Always have a trusted family member or friend with you when meeting with a potential buyer.
Always meet during the day or in a public and busy area if possible.
Be aware that it is quite easy to create fake user profiles and many of the fraudsters on Facebook Marketplace use fake profiles to lure in potential victims.
Try to stay with cash on delivery.
Never give your personal bank account details, but rather ask for anonymous payment apps, which allow you to withdraw the money with just a username or OTP.
As soon as buyers become emotional, insistent, persistent or even overtly aggressive, be wary and withdraw from the transaction.
If you are still unsure and not satisfied after doing a thorough vetting of the intended buyer,
do not hesitate to contact our organisation for help and advice.

EXTREMELY IMPORTANT: All potential clients need to be aware that owing to the nature of our work as specialist investigators there are people who have been caught on the wrong side of the law - who are trying to discredit me - Mike Bolhuis and my organisation Specialised Security Services - to get themselves off the hook.
