The fight against rhino poaching in Namibia escalated sharply on

27 and 28 May 2025, following the announcement of a N$1.2 million reward

for information leading to the arrest, successful sentencing and the incarceration of the perpetrators.

The reward consists of N$1 million for information that will result in the arrest of a syndicate that recently poached four rhinos on a farm in the Hardap Region near Maltahöhe. An additional reward of N$200,000 has also been offered for information that leads to the arrest, successful prosecution, and conviction of the poachers.

Tragically, these three rhinos were closely related to Elsa, a well-known orphaned calf who survived a separate poaching incident that occurred between May 9 and 11, 2025. The repeated targeting of rhinos in this region underscores the devastating toll poaching is taking on Namibia’s critically endangered black and white rhino populations,

many of which are part of long-running conservation programs.

Read our initial project:

  • Authorities hope that the total reward of N$1.2 million will encourage informants to come forward, enabling law enforcement to dismantle the criminal networks fuelling the illegal wildlife trade.

  • According to the Ministry of Environment, Forestry and Tourism, 15 rhinos have been poached in Namibia in the past year.

  • The ministry has expressed grave concern over the increasing sophistication of poaching syndicates, often equipped with high-powered rifles, night vision equipment, and access to insider information.

  • Namibia is home to one of the largest black rhino populations in the world, a conservation achievement that is now under threat.

  • The recent attacks, especially involving known individuals like Elsa and her relatives, highlight the need for enhanced anti-poaching strategies, including aerial surveillance, ground patrols, community intelligence networks, and harsher penalties for convicted poachers and traffickers.

  • The government, alongside conservation NGOs and international partners, continues to urge the public to report suspicious activity and stand in solidarity to protect one of Africa's most iconic species from extinction.

Mr. Mike Bolhuis of Specialised Security Services has been contacted by various concerned groups in both Namibia and South Africa regarding the escalating rhino poaching crisis in Namibia.

In response, Specialised Security Services has committed to raising public awareness about this urgent issue,

with the aim of promoting education and supporting crime prevention efforts.

Our primary concern is to assist the Namibian authorities by gathering and forwarding all relevant information that may lead to the identification and prosecution of those involved in these crimes.

Specialised Security Services remains committed to supporting lawful anti-poaching initiatives and ensuring that all information received is handled responsibly and directed through the correct official channels.
