Willem Jacobus (Lieb) Liebenberg (Alpha Kompanie 1977-1978),
lid van die staande mag tussen 1976 en 1983.
Sy doel was drieledig:

A TRIBUTE TO TRUE SERVICE AND BROTHERHOOD
It is with great pride and deep gratitude that we announce the release of the Paratrooper Battalion Stories book.
WHAT MAKES THIS BOOK SPECIAL:
Although numerous publications have covered the Paratrooper Battalion between 1961 and 1993, most have been written from individual perspectives or research-based accounts. This book, however, compiles firsthand stories from various South African paratroopers — men who were under fire, who risked their lives, and who personally experienced the reality of war, sacrifice, and unbreakable brotherhood.
The book offers a realistic and honest glimpse into the life of a paratrooper, as told by those who lived it.
Each story adds a unique viewpoint and is a valuable contribution to our military history.
THE ORIGIN OF THE BOOK:
The idea for this project was initiated by Mr. Willem Jacobus (Lieb) Liebenberg (Alpha Company, 1977–1978),
a former member of the standing force from 1976 to 1983.
His vision was threefold:
To give every paratrooper the opportunity to tell his unique story.
To reignite enthusiasm and involvement among veterans, in collaboration with Mr. Mike Bolhuis (Charlie Company, 1979).
To raise much-needed funds for the Parabat-in-Need Fund.
With the assistance of Mr. Dirk van de Wall and his daughter, Ms. Anina van de Wall, the initial stories were professionally compiled.
However, due to their demanding workloads, the project came to a standstill. After almost four years with no further progress,
Mr. Liebenberg approached Mr. Mike Bolhuis for help in driving the project forward.
Mr. Bolhuis agreed and established the necessary logistical infrastructure.
Following thorough research to identify the most suitable publisher, he reached out to Mr. Johan Coetzee of Naledi Publishers,
a former Parabat from 1972. Mr. Coetzee immediately agreed to publish the book.
Mr. Bolhuis also undertook the responsibility of personally covering all expenses related to the compilation, production,
publication, and distribution of the book.
CONTRIBUTORS:
This project is the result of dedicated teamwork, not just the efforts of one or two individuals.
The following groups and individuals played essential roles:
Every paratrooper who submitted a story.
(Importantly, the book identifies each paratrooper who contributed their story.)
Those involved in the collation, editing, and formatting of the material.
Mr. Lieb Liebenberg.
Mr. Mike Bolhuis and the SSS Agents.
Journalist, Mr. Jacques Myburgh.
Naledi Publishers and their entire team.
THE COVER:
The cover design is a composition of generic images and symbols, representing all paratroopers, both nationally and internationally.
The decision was made not to feature any specific individual to ensure no one felt excluded.
The cover represents the collective identity of the paratrooper brotherhood.
At the request of Mr. Lieb Liebenberg and Naledi Publishers, and in recognition of his public reputation and service, Mr. Mike Bolhuis was asked to allow his name to appear on the cover. After much persuasion, he agreed and fully committed himself to the success of the book.
BOOK SALES AND FUNDRAISING:
For every book sold, R50.00 is donated to the Parabat-in-Need Fund by Mr. Mike Bolhuis, Mr. Lieb Liebenberg, and Naledi Publishers.
The fund was created to support any paratrooper in severe distress.
A strict protocol is in place for submitting aid applications, and the fund is managed with the highest level of transparency and accountability.
Read the following project regarding Parabat-in-Need Fund and its protocols, here:
Book Price: R275.00
Veterans’ groups that purchase books in bulk for resale will receive a 20% discount (R55.00 per book).
This initiative allows them to generate revenue by reselling the books at the full retail price of R275.00,
further supporting paratrooper veterans in business.
