URGENT UPDATE: CANCELLATION OF COOPERATION AGREEMENT WITH MRS. MEL VILJOEN

Specialised Security Services (SSS) hereby informs the public, past victims, and the relevant authorities of a critical and regrettable development in the ongoing investigations concerning Mr. Peet Viljoen and Mrs. Mel Viljoen. This follows the previous public statement dated 2 July 2026, in which Mrs. Viljoen offered her full cooperation.

NEW DEVELOPMENTS AND BREACH OF AGREEMENT:

Following the publication of the project by Specialised Security Services dated 2 July 2026, the following new developments have occurred, which constitute a material breach of the cooperation agreement by Mrs. Viljoen:

Failure to Cooperate: Mrs. Viljoen did not cooperate with Specialised Security Services as agreed upon. Despite her written and verbal commitments, the promised cooperation was not forthcoming.
Unilateral Campaigns: Two "Back a Buddy" campaigns were registered with the knowledge of Mrs. Viljoen. She did not consult or inform Specialised Security Services about these campaigns; she acted independently, contrary to the spirit of the agreement.
Unsanctioned Protest: A protest campaign was arranged to take place on behalf of Mr. Viljoen outside the courthouse on 8 July 2026. Mrs. Viljoen was aware of the campaign - she did not consult or inform Specialised Security Services, again acting in a unilateral and uncoordinated manner.
Delay of Crucial Information: Mrs. Viljoen did not adhere to her agreement with Specialised Security Services. She delayed the delivery of crucial information that forms part of the ongoing investigations, thus hampering the progress of the work.
Direct Media Engagement: Mrs. Viljoen addressed the media directly - This was in direct contravention of her agreement to not engage in any media interviews during the ongoing investigations.
Contradictory Legal Stance: Mrs. Viljoen's attorney stated in court that no media or authorities are permitted to contact his clients directly. This legal position contradicts the spirit and intent of the cooperation agreement, which was intended to facilitate open communication with authorities.
Failure to Fulfill Core Commitment: Mrs. Viljoen stated in the agreement that she would provide her full cooperation with all ongoing investigations to Specialised Security Services and the authorities. This fundamental commitment did not come to light, and the promised cooperation was not realised.

SSS RESPONSE AND CANCELLATION OF AGREEMENT:

Owing to the aforementioned conduct by Mrs. Viljoen, which constitutes a clear and material breach of the signed agreement, Specialised Security Services has cancelled the cooperation agreement that was in place between Mrs. Viljoen and Specialised Security Services.

Mrs. Viljoen’s actions have demonstrated a lack of genuine commitment to the process of resolution, choosing instead to engage in public campaigns and media interactions while failing to provide the essential cooperation and information required to move the investigations forward. This has eroded the basis upon which the agreement was founded.

ONGOING INVESTIGATIONS:

It is crucial to emphasise that all investigations are ongoing.

The cancellation of this cooperation agreement does not halt the investigative work. Specialised Security Services will continue to diligently and thoroughly complete these investigations in full support of the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) and the relevant authorities.

SSS remains committed to uncovering the truth and ensuring that justice is served for all victims. We will continue to centralise evidence, take statements, and build comprehensive case files.

NOTICE TO THE PUBLIC AND VICTIMS:

The public and all victims are encouraged to refrain from discussing these cases, the victims, or the Viljoen couple on social media platforms. Defamatory discussions or social media gossip are unhelpful and do not serve the cause of justice.
All victims who have valid cases are urged to come forward. SSS is willing and able to assist all complainants and protect them from intimidation.
Those who have not registered criminal cases should do so now. SSS can assist with this process.
