Although Yandisa Yolanda Motshegoa, also known as "Advocate Bam," has been arrested and remains in custody pending her next court appearance on 6 August 2025, Specialised Security Services (SSS) continues its independent investigation into a broader pattern of alleged fraud. Ms. Motshegoa is accused of systematically misrepresenting herself as a qualified legal practitioner, despite not being registered with the Legal Practice Council, and exploiting vulnerable clients in need of legal assistance. The case reveals disturbing tactics involving impersonation, financial manipulation, and deception, suggesting a calculated and ongoing scheme that may have harmed multiple victims across various provinces.

BACKGROUND AND IDENTITY:

  • Full Name: Yandisa Yolanda Motshegoa

  • Known Aliases: “Advocate Bam,” Yandisa Yolanda Jam Jam

  • Date of Birth: 16 June 1979

  • Gender: Female

  • Known Contact Number: 083 862 7952

  • Past Known Locations: Cape Town, Durban, Langa, Bloemfontein, Bronkhorstspruit.

  • Despite presenting herself as a legal expert, Ms. Motshegoa is not registered with the Legal Practice Council (LPC) - a fact confirmed by Detective Constable Sithole of SAPS on 17 July 2025.

  • Her fraudulent activities reportedly target vulnerable individuals dealing with sensitive legal matters such as divorce, maintenance disputes, and criminal litigation.

  • SAPS Case details: SAPS HONEYDEW CAS 70/06/2024.

  • Ms. Yandisa Yolanda Motshegoa, also known as “Advocate Bam,” was formally arrested by Colonel Chuene, the HAWKS Commander of the Johannesburg Serious Corruption Investigation Unit, in collaboration with the Provincial Commissioner of the DPCI Detective Service.

  • The arrest stems from a fraud case opened at the Honeydew Police Station, further reinforcing the growing body of evidence against her involving the impersonation of a legal practitioner and alleged large-scale financial fraud.

Specialised Security Services (SSS) commends the HAWKS and SAPS teams involved in the investigation.

We extend our sincere congratulations to each member of the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation (DPCI)

and the South African Police Service (SAPS) for their outstanding work, diligence,

and unwavering commitment in pursuing justice in this matter.

Your efforts have made a significant contribution to protecting the public from ongoing fraudulent activity

and upholding the integrity of South Africa’s legal system.

MODUS OPERANDI: FRAUDULENT LEGAL REPRESENTATION

  • Victims have reported a similar pattern in her fraudulent conduct:

    • Ms. Motshegoa poses as a legal advocate and promises to handle complex legal matters.

    • She claims to specialise in "criminal litigation" and "high-profile criminal cases."

    • Clients are lured in with emotional and comforting language, which contrasts sharply with the professional standards expected in the legal field.

    • Victims have paid large upfront sums into a First National Bank (FNB) account (63034742494) under the name "Adv Motshegoa."

    • In one instance, payments exceeded R1.5 million between January 2024 and March 2025.

    • In some cases, she allegedly instructed clients to deposit received maintenance payments directly into her personal account, which raises serious ethical and legal concerns.

    • Victims report that she avoids accountability by failing to issue invoices or business cards, deleting chat histories, and regularly changing her profile picture.

  • Her communication methods further reflect deceptive intent.

  • Many of her victims noted the complete deletion of WhatsApp conversations or messages from their phones, a tactic likely used to erase evidence.

  • Additionally, her mobile number does not appear to be linked to any public social media profiles, allowing her to operate in near-anonymity.

IMPACT ON THE PUBLIC AND LEGAL SYSTEM:

  • Engaging with a fraudulent legal representative like Ms. Motshegoa carries significant risk:

    • FINANCIAL LOSS:

      • Clients risk losing large sums of money with little to no legal recourse for recovery.

    • LEGAL JEOPARDY:

      • Victims are left without valid representation, which can result in the dismissal of cases or unfavourable rulings.

    • DATA AND PRIVACY BREACHES:

      • Entrusting confidential information to an unregulated person poses a risk of exploitation or identity fraud.

    • PUBLIC CONFIDENCE:

      • Such scams undermine trust in legitimate legal professionals and institutions.

ONGOING INVESTIGATION AND LEGAL ACTION:

  • A fraud case has been registered by one victim at SAPS Pretoria North under reference number CAS 338/4/2025, dated 25 April 2025.

  • The matter was referred to Specialised Security Services, who successfully identified the suspect and shared the findings with SAPS Pretoria North's Detective Service.

  • The investigation is ongoing, and further charges may arise as more victims come forward.

Specialised Security Services urges anyone who has had interactions with a person known as "Advocate Bam"

or Yandisa Yolanda Motshegoa, under suspicious circumstances, to come forward.

Whether you were a victim or possess relevant information, your assistance is vital in stopping this pattern of fraud.

This case is a critical reminder that criminals can exploit even the most trusted institutions, such as the legal profession, for personal gain. The public is strongly urged to verify the credentials of any legal representative through

the Legal Practice Council (www.lpc.org.za) and to report any suspicious conduct without delay.

Specialised Security Services remains dedicated to exposing fraudulent activity

and protecting the rights and finances of South African citizens.

The greater the number of criminal cases opened by aggrieved victims, the stronger the opportunity for SAPS and the

National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) to centralise the charges and pursue a comprehensive, coordinated prosecution.

This not only strengthens the evidentiary base but also significantly improves the likelihood of a successful conviction and a more appropriate sentencing outcome. For this reason, Specialised Security Services (SSS) urges all individuals who have been misled, defrauded, or exploited by Yandisa Yolanda Motshegoa, also known as "Advocate Bam," to come forward and contact us without delay. Every report counts - and may be vital in securing justice.
