A RAPID RESPONSE TO A SERIOUS KIDNAPPING
Specialised Security Services (SSS) is pleased to confirm the rescue and safe recovery
of 26-year-old Ms. Alex Soleil van Heerden,
who was forcibly taken in a kidnapping incident in Northcliff, Johannesburg, on the evening of 5 August 2026.
Ms. Alex van Heerden was rescued in Vosloorus on 6 August 2026, at approximately 22:30,
bringing an immediate and positive outcome to an extremely serious investigation.
The vehicle was recovered and suspects were arrested.
WHAT HAPPENED:
The incident developed rapidly.
At approximately 18:57 on 5 August 2026, Ms. Van Heerden was travelling in an Uber from News Cafe in Rosebank to her residence in Northcliff.
Upon arriving at her residence and exiting the Uber, she was forcibly taken by unidentified individuals and placed into another vehicle.
Preliminary information indicated that at least three individuals were involved, and video footage showed Ms. Van Heerden being forced against her will into a white Renault hatchback.
The Uber driver immediately left the scene and proceeded to a SAPS police station to report the incident.
A criminal case was opened at SAPS Fairlands under CAS 38/08/2026.
READ OUR INITIAL PROJECT REGARDING THE KIDNAPPING:
THE IMPORTANCE OF IMMEDIATE ACTION:
Following notification of the kidnapping, SSS worked with the SAPS and other relevant role players.
SSS also contacted family members, friends and colleagues to obtain information that could assist the investigation.
An immediate public appeal was issued and information was distributed through social media and community networks.
Information received from the public can assist investigators by providing additional witness accounts, CCTV footage, vehicle sightings and other evidence relevant to the investigation.
The rapid reporting of the incident and the subsequent coordination between the SAPS, SSS and members of the public contributed to the ongoing investigative response.
THANK YOU TO EVERYONE WHO ASSISTED:
SSS extends its sincere appreciation to the SSS Task Team and the SAPS for their dedicated efforts throughout the investigation.
Ms. Alex Van Heerden's husband, Mr. Rashaad Ismail, contacted Mr. Mike Bolhuis and expressed his relief and elation following Ms. Van Heerden’s safe recovery.
SSS also thanks all members of the public, family, friends, colleagues and other parties who assisted by:
sharing the SSS public appeal;
distributing information through social media and community networks;
assisting with searches and enquiries;
providing information to investigators;
contacting SSS with potentially relevant information; and
remaining vigilant and assisting where possible.
The response demonstrated the value of rapid reporting, information-sharing and cooperation between law enforcement, specialist investigators and the public.
THE INVESTIGATION DOES NOT END WITH THE RECOVERY:
Although Ms. Van Heerden has been found safe, the kidnapping remains under investigation due to the seriousness of the incident and the need to establish the full circumstances and identify all persons involved.
SSS continues to appeal for information relating to the period before, during and after the kidnapping.
This includes any person who witnessed the incident, observed Ms. Van Heerden, noticed suspicious persons or vehicles, observed unusual activity in the relevant areas, or has any other information that may assist the investigation.
Information that may appear insignificant could assist investigators in corroborating evidence, establishing a timeline of events and identifying those responsible.
The safe recovery of Ms. Van Heerden does not bring the investigation to an end.
SSS is extremely grateful that Ms. Alex Van Heerden has been rescued and found safe.
At the same time, SSS emphasises that kidnapping must never be treated as an ordinary criminal incident.
It is a serious violent crime that can place a victim's life and physical and psychological wellbeing at extreme risk.
Do not wait. Do not assume someone else will report it. Do not dismiss information because it appears insignificant.
In an extreme kidnapping investigation, time matters.
The investigation continues.
Anyone with information relevant to this kidnapping is urged to provide it to the investigating authorities or SSS.
All information received by SSS will be handled with the necessary confidentiality and investigative discretion.
