SSS requests the public's help for any information regarding the Kelrn Truck hijacking.
THE HIJACKING:
On Friday, 22 December 2023, at about 15:33, the driver for Kelrn Transport, Samuel Masendeke, left the Kelrn Transport depot in Pomona, Kempton Park, with a load of Unilever products (mainly toiletries) after filling his truck with diesel on route for deliveries.
The value of the load was more than R1,500,000.00.
The horse used was a Freightliner with registration number 084 KVV NC, and the two trailers were Afrit Tautliner trailers with registration numbers 067 KVT NC and 068 KVT NC.
At about 19:00, the driver stopped at the Vaal Plaza on the N1 South to rest.
He continued further on route at about 22:30.
The driver stopped the truck beside the Frankfort off-ramp (R723) to relieve himself.
While the driver was busy, an unknown motor vehicle stopped in front of the Kelrn Transport truck. No description of the vehicle is available.
One unknown African male got out of the vehicle and approached the driver as if he wanted to ask for directions.
While the driver conversed with the man, two other unknown men emerged from the vehicle and approached them.
One of the two men pointed a firearm (pistol) at the driver and ordered him to get into the Kelrn Transport truck.
Two of the suspects accompanied him into the truck.
The driver was forced to lie on the bed at the back of the cabin in the truck facing downwards and was covered with a blanket.
One of the suspects sat on the driver, and the other drove the truck with the two fully loaded trailers.
At 23:25, the suspect drove the truck Southbound for 2.53 kilometres and made a U-turn Northbound, passing the Vaal Plaza on the N1 North.
The suspects made another U-turn and stopped at 23:32, where the driver had initially stopped.
The suspects departed again at 23:59 from the scene, turned off at the R723 off-ramp, and turned back on the N1. The truck drove Northbound for 30 kilometres, where the horse was left and later recovered.
According to information given to the South African Police Service (SAPS) by the driver, the truck stopped after a while and he was forced into the unknown motor vehicle.
He had to lie face-down on the back seat accompanied by two unknown suspects.
After a while, the motor vehicle stopped in a built-up area, and the driver was forced into a dark room and locked up there.
A suspect guarded him.
After an unknown time, the driver was collected. He was again forced to lie face down on the back seat of the vehicle.
The driver was dropped in the Elandsfontein area near Alberton.
Samuel Masendeke never returned to work and could not be reached at all.
On Wednesday, 27 December 2023, Samuel Masendeke briefly contacted his controller and stated that he was too scared to come to work.
Samuel Masendeke is a person of interest in this case and Specialised Security Service (SSS) requests assistance from the public to locate Samuel Masendeke as well as to assist with the location of the two Afrit Tautliner trailers that are still missing.
South African Police Service (SAPS) Koppies CAS: 11-12-2023 Truck Hijacking was opened.
