Specialised Security Services urgently appeals to the public for assistance in identifying a white male who entered
Zappas Restaurant in Murrayfield, Pretoria, and detonated an SADF- and SAPS-issued teargas grenade
on Friday, 21 March 2025, at 21:18.
This individual will face charges of intentional and malicious damage to property and will also be charged with assault with intent to do grievous bodily harm (Assault GBH). Under South African law, Assault GBH is a serious offence, involving the intentional or reckless infliction of significant physical harm on another person. It carries harsher penalties than common assault, including the possibility of lengthy imprisonment. By detonating the teargas grenade, this person deliberately endangered the lives and well-being of Zappas’ patrons. In addition to the physical and emotional harm caused, the incident has damaged the restaurant’s name and reputation, as patrons may now question their personal safety and future support of the establishment.
THE EVENTS OF FRIDAY, 21 MARCH 2025:
This individual entered the restaurant and proceeded directly to the men's restroom.
After detonating the teargas grenade, he calmly exited the premises without looking back.
The restaurant's patrons were forced to evacuate shortly thereafter as the establishment quickly filled with teargas.
