Mr. Albert Arthur van Eeden was found guilty in the Phalaborwa Magistrate’s Court on 21 May 2025 in a case relating to a protection order. He received a suspended sentence and was fined R1,000.00.
Shortly thereafter, he was re-arrested and placed in custody in connection with a separate matter:
SAPS Parow case number 178/7/2022.
He is currently being held at Pollsmoor Prison.
Mr. Van Eeden appeared in the Bellville Magistrate’s Court on 11 June 2025, where the case was
postponed to 23 July 2025 for the appointment of legal aid.
Please read our previous projects for more context:

In South African law, a suspended sentence means the accused is not required to serve the sentence unless they commit a further crime within a specific period. Violation of a protection order, if criminally prosecuted, may result in both fines and imprisonment. When an accused requests legal representation but cannot afford it, the matter is typically postponed to allow Legal Aid South Africa to assess and assign legal counsel.
All cases related to Mr. Van Eeden's crimes must be centralised under a single,
coordinated investigation. Centralisation allows the prosecution to present a comprehensive picture of the extent
and pattern of the alleged crimes, which significantly strengthens the case in court.
By combining all related cases, rather than prosecuting them individually,
law enforcement can demonstrate the full scale of the crime, which is critical for ensuring appropriate charges,
accurate financial quantification of the damage, and, ultimately, a sentence that reflects the severity of the offences.
This approach also helps to avoid conflicting outcomes, duplications, or overlooked evidence.
Members of the public who have opened cases or have relevant information should
urgently contact the SSS investigating officer to ensure their case forms part of the broader investigation.
Coordinated cooperation between victims and law enforcement is key to ensuring justice is done,
thereby deterring future criminal activity.
