Mr. Thabang Malan was found guilty on charges of fraud by the Meyerton Magistrate Court on Thursday, 12 June 2025.

A sentence of 3 years’ direct imprisonment was handed down to Mr. Malan after the verdict was issued.

The arrest of Mr. Thabang Malan came after several complaints of business impersonation and allegations of fraudulent activities were reported to Specialised Security Services in the past 12 months. The publication of a nationwide project by Specialised Security Services warned the public about Mr. Thabang Malan's modus operandi.

Since the arrest of Mr. Thabang Malan, several complainants came forward with information that contributed to the success of the bail opposing arguments against Mr. Malan. As a result, Mr. Malan was denied bail on four occasions.

Specialised Security Services have been inundated with compliments following the arrest of Mr. Thabang Malan.

Mr. Mike Bolhuis has highlighted this case as a prime example of how effective the projects and the media

are at contributing to the identification and the eventual successful solving of cases.
