CASE HISTORY:
The investigation into KleuterZone and the Bougas brothers began in early 2025 after SSS was inundated with complaints from the public.
The initial project, published on 14 March 2025, detailed allegations that KleuterZone, under director Mr. Anthonie Bougas, was operating a Ponzi scheme. Our preliminary investigation found that the company had received over R1 million from a client without honouring the written agreement.
Key findings from the initial phase included:
Promises of returns that seemed "too good to be true," with advertised returns of up to 62.4%.
Several inconsistencies and discrepancies in documentation provided to investors.
Concerning results from the investigation into share certificates, which referenced companies that do not exist.
As a result, an urgent application was made to place KleuterZone under liquidation in the Pretoria High Court. This application was uncontested, and on 14 May 2025, KleuterZone was placed under final liquidation by court order. By this time, Mr. Anthonie Bougas had already fled South Africa for Thailand.
Subsequently, a second project was published detailing extreme extortion, intimidation, and death threats made by the Bougas brothers. This arose from a separate business transaction in which a client received R4 million from Mr. Anthonie Bougas. When the client, concerned the funds were ill-gotten gains, refused to release the money from a trust account due to non-compliance with FICA requirements, the Bougas brothers responded with threats.
The intimidation campaign, orchestrated by Mr. John Bougas from within South Africa, escalated to include:
Threatening WhatsApp messages from unknown numbers, including specific death threats mentioning the client's grandchildren.
The deployment of a heavily armed private security company (associated with taxi industry protection) to the client's residential complex.
A video message sent to the client as a show of force.
A criminal case was opened with the SAPS, and the SSS Task Team intervened to secure the client and manage the threat.
Following this, Mr. John Bougas also left South Africa to join his brother in Thailand. Another criminal case was opened at the SAPS Commercial Crimes Unit in Thabazimbi (CAS 137/3/2025).
CURRENT STATUS UPDATE:
We can confirm that Mr. John Bougas has returned to South Africa. Our organisation is currently working in close collaboration with the
South African Police Service (SAPS) to actively pursue the multiple cases that were brought against both John and Anthonie Bougas.
We maintain that justice must prevail, and we are particularly focused on ensuring that the cases against Mr. John Bougas pertaining to violent intimidation and extortion are pursued to the fullest extent of the law.
Regarding Mr. Anthonie Bougas, our investigation confirms that he remains in Thailand and has not left the country since initially fleeing South Africa. Earlier this year, our investigators identified and exposed that Mr. Anthonie Bougas used manipulated videos in a deliberate attempt to falsely prove he was in Canada. This was a calculated act intended to mislead our investigation and the public.
Our findings indicate that Mr. Anthonie Bougas's financial situation is dire and he is running out of money. We believe this financial strain is the likely reason his mother, Mrs. Renche Bougas, has recently begun reaching out to media outlets. While this may signal friction within the Bougas family, based on their documented history of manipulation, we warn the public that this could be yet another tactical manoeuvre. The aim may be to feign innocence for certain family members to facilitate a safe return to South Africa, potentially to extract more funds.
The evidence we have gathered demonstrates that Mr. Anthonie Bougas and his immediate family involved in KleuterZone were fully aware of the fraud being committed. Their past actions show a persistent pattern of manipulating facts to suit their agenda. We hereby issue a stern public warning: do not allow yourselves to be manipulated or used. Our evidence clearly shows that Mr. Anthonie Bougas will use any means necessary to access money, including exploiting the bank accounts of those who trust him.
Furthermore, we have obtained evidence suggesting that Mr. Anthonie Bougas is allegedly illegally using the passport of a local Thai national to facilitate his movements. This is a serious offence that could lead to prosecution for both him and the individual complicit in this act.
We have also identified his current address in Thailand. Contrary to any illusion of luxury, he is not living in opulence, which is a strong indicator of his declining fortunes. We warn the public that his desperation for money makes him a significant risk, and we urge extreme caution against engaging with him in financial transactions.
OFFICIAL NOTICE TO MR. ATHONIE BOUGAS:
Specialised Security Services hereby issues a direct notice to Mr. Anthonie Bougas to contact the appointed liquidators and the relevant authorities in South Africa to provide his full cooperation with the ongoing investigations. Numerous questions remain unanswered, and it would be to his benefit to cooperate. Should Mr. Bougas wish to do so, he is advised to contact our investigators to make the necessary arrangements.
